There are no verses suggesting that there aren't anymore around. There certainly are.
Paul is not the last apostle, but he claimed he was the least of apostles, for having persecuted the church before he was saved:
1 Corinthians 15:8-9 NKJV
After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.
9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
Ephesians 2:20 says that apostles and prophets are the foundation of the church. This means our church must be built on apostles and prophets, with Christ as the Cornerstone.
Ephesians 2:19-20 NKJV
19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
Also, no verse says that prophecy doesn't exist anymore. It is simply out of personal belief and understanding that some say that. I have prophesied before and still prophesy today. Whatever Jesus did back then, He said we shall do greater things than that. Greater, not lesser.
Proverbs 29:18 NKJV (See footnote)
Where there is no revelation (prophetic vision), the people cast off restraint;
But happy is he who keeps the law.
In fact, when it comes to prophets, Jesus taught us in Matthew 10:41:
He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
Jesus taught us to receive prophets because there are still prophets and prophetesses today. So we had better receive them.
