I don't think that people really understand Calvinism. I am not a Presbyterian or Baptist but I think people really twist what John Calvin meant, just because of lack of understanding.
What he really meant was that God, in His sovereignty is both the beginning and the end. He is outside time, not like us. So He knows what is going to happen before it happens, and He knows the hearts of men. He knows who is going to accept Him, who will reject Him -- who has a chance and who doesn't. God knows, that some people will reject Him, no matter what, because their hearts and minds are made up, and every path led to the same outcome with this person. That's what I believe.
God Himself is love. But He is all-knowing. He gave His Son to die for us only because He loved us. But He also knew who will reject Him even though He gave His everything for them. But at least He did His part, and He still died for the people He knew would reject Him. But he also knows the outcome of it which is really sad -- dying for someone who will never love you even though you love them so much, and knowing that there is nothing more you can do to save them -- and that they will ultimately reject His love and reject eternal life no matter what. Hope this makes sense.
It's like a few guys in school has a crush on you (or so it seems), but at the end of the day, you can somehow tell which guys were really sincere about it and which ones weren't into you at all.
